It's a blueberry!

Amanda and I went to her doctor today. Since I take Braden to school in the morning, Amanda and I took separate cars and met at the doctor's office.

Not wanting to be late to the big moment, I overcompensated and arrived a little early. So, there I was -- a dude sitting alone in the waiting room of the OB/GYN. The only other guy around me was, ironically, Matthew McConaughey on the cover of "Texas Monthly" magazine. Thanks for being there, Matt.

Amanda arrived only a few awkward minutes later, fortunately, and she was called back not long after that. I left my buddy Matt to fend for himself. Sorry, bro.

A few tests, exams, and awkward diagrams later, it was confirmed. We're pregnant! Six weeks and four days pregant, to be exact. The doctor says our little one is due May 18, 2009.

Next, it was time for our first ultrasound. I had no idea they did--or could even do--ultrasounds so early in the pregnancy. Besides, according to the doctor, our baby was only the size of a blueberry.

I've heard before that a woman sees herself as a "mother" as soon as she discovers she's pregnant, but a man doesn't see himself as a "father" until he holds his baby in his own arms. When I saw the heart beating on the monitor and heard that rapid little thumping, I fast-forwarded eight months. I saw myself as a daddy -- again.

Here's what a baby looks like at 6 weeks:

- Arms and legs continue to develop
- Brain is growing well
- Lenses of the eyes appear
- Nostrils are formed
- Intestines grow
